Biography
Sarah Heitkamp is Curator and Director of UND Art Collections, where she oversees the development, stewardship, interpretation, and use of a collection of approximately 30,000 works of art and art-related objects. She holds an MFA in Visual Art and an MA in Art Technology.
Her curatorial practice encompasses collections development and management, research, exhibitions, and immersive and interactive exhibition design. Her teaching centers on experiential and object-based learning, using original works of art and cultural collections to create hands-on opportunities for inquiry, interpretation, and interdisciplinary learning. She teaches courses and internships in the arts and cultural collections and works across disciplines to connect students with art, material culture, and professional curatorial practice. She welcomes students, faculty, and potential donors to reach out to her with questions about teaching and learning opportunities or collections development.
